York has so much to offer visitors to this famous historical capital of Yorkshire. As well as York’s attractions you can also book hotel securely online with many discounted offers.

St Williams College in York stands in the shadows of the magnificent York Minster in the heart of the city centre. It is one of the cities finest examples of York’s medieval timbered buildings and was built in 1461. It was originally the college for the local Minster priests until the sixteenth century when the buildings where converted into quarters and let out to the York’s residence. In the nineteenth century St Williams College had seen its best days and fell into decline until Francis Green, who was the owner of nearby Treasury House, bought the building and with the help of the local council, the college was beautifully restored to its former glory and sold back to the council.

Presently some of the building has been made into one of York’s favorite restaurants where you can dine outside in the summer days in the shadows of the magnificent York Minster.

It also used as one of York’s top conference centre with the Maclagan Hall which can entertain up to two hundred people. The house of Laymen can be used for a smaller setting with seating up to one hundred people. Smaller again is the Bishop’s Chamber which is suitable for much smaller events and meetings with seating up to fifty people.

The college has like many of York’s older buildings, it own ghost. It is that of murderer whose brother wrongfully was accused of his brother’s crime and hung. He now paces the corridors crying out for his guilt.
